Today, Dutch-Iranian artist Sevdaliza dropped her debut album Ison unnanounced. Accompanied by a one-hour ‘visual experience,’ Ison delves deeper into the creative mind of Sevdaliza more than ever before.
Never struggling to challenge her audience and experiment with haunting trip-hop beats and stretching R&B conventions, Sevdaliza takes an introspective viewpoint as she examines, as put by Sarah Sitkin (the sculptor responsible for the artwork), an “idea [which] is based around Sevdaliza being the mother to herself and her past lives.” The 17-track release includes a number of previous singles such as ‘Hubris’ which, alongside the album’s artwork, was released earlier this month.
Be sure to follow Sevdaliza for future releases, but for now check out the somewhat haunting visual experience which accompanies Ison below or watch the dramatic and surreal video for her single ‘Human’ here.
“It carries her vulnerability stoically. Her features distorted, some omitted, some emphasized. A new form is repeated through her 16 children [the album’s songs] surrounding her.”
