Fine-art photographer Wolfgang Tillmans’ diverse work is influenced by observations of his surroundings. Pushing the boundaries of contemporary visual art, his abstract works dissolve the boundaries between art and photography.
Tillmans is an active supporter of the LGBT movement, which is closely documented by his intimate and thought provoking photographs. He is captivated by the social interactions between groups and individuals, a factor which is deeply explored in his work. Tillmans also produces insular work which explores abstraction and photographic processes as a form of self-expression. Additionally, Tillmans released an EP in 2016 entitled ‘Device Control’ – check it out below.
Tillmans challenges the way in which we conceive photography as a direct record of reality. Catch his latest and most powerful exhibition to date at the Tate Modern (running until 11th June 2017).
